The Japanese Master System (1987) included a built-in accessory, an additional FM soundchip (Yamaha YM2413). This chip was only supported by certain games. I’ve decided for the FM version, because almost all other longplays on youtube show only the standard sound chip version.
I had some problems with the recording. The original game runs absolutely smooth with 50/60fps.

Round 01: 00:14
Round 02: 02:20
Round 03: 04:04
Round 04: 06:10
Round 05: 08:51
Round 06: 11:15
Round 07: 13:45
Round 08: 16:28

The prequel: ” Zillion I ”

Fuck this game. I got so mad at the first part that I whipped the game at the wall and made a dent in the wall. I meant to whip it at the couch

The style is very different in comparison to the first title…..more of a run & gun mixed with some shoot 'em up mechanics. The developers wanted a change in pace seemingly. Still a fun game!

Such a disappointing sequel. Gameplay is a lot shallower than the previous one.

The only thing they did right are graphics.

The original was 10 times better than this. This is one of the most generic games I have ever played. It's aged like milk.

I still don't get what all those Z's you collect do.  There were pink Z boxes all over the place on the vehicle stages but nothing seemed to happen from picking them up. No points were added and the vehicle changed from other letters and energy from another. What is the point of the Z boxes exactly!?

I remember this being really awkward to play because jump and fire were round the wrong way. Button one should always be fire and button 2 should be jump but for some weird reason 1 was jump and 2 was fire.

How the hell do you go from the excellent first game to this stinker?
We're talking dumbing it down on a Bioshock level here.

@ThatsMrTimex2You This is because its using the Yamaha YM2413 sound chip that only Japanese consoles had. 🙂

… I expect I shall have to provide a beating b/c your opinion is WRONG!11 🙂 lol

Prepare for a beatdown!11 Seriously the game just could've been put together a bit better. Even for master system, it's just really bland and samey. But yea.

Compelling argument. The level design, however, is just piss poor. It looks like the level designer got lazy in many areas and simply copy and pasted certain sequences of pits, jumps, enemies, etc as filler. It's incredibly unimaginative and doesn't look like the type of design that would be fun at all.

Btw, I apologize if you played this game when you were younger and since then haven't developed critical thinking skills, but this game looks bad, sounds bad and just smells

I remember thinking this game had some great visuals back in the 80's…and they're still impressive to a good degree today. I only wished then and I wish now that Sega had made this installment of Zillion as epic as the first adventure. When you beat the first Zillion, you felt like you really accomplished something. I came away from beating Zillion II thinking that Sega had rushed it. Oh well, this video brought back some pleasant memories. Thanks for posting it!

@Rakiarmas As much as I'd love to see one, I don't think Sega would want to due to the fact that the Master System/Mark III was completely overshadowed by the NES. Therefore, it's hardly well-known.

I'm always supriced about quality of Master System games. They should release somesort of collection like they did with Megadrive/Genesis.
